Editorial Standards
Buyer guidance is only useful if the sourcing is as careful as the advice.
New Home Hero covers a process where builder policies, contracts, compensation, construction timing, and local rules can change. Our editorial standard is to be specific about what we know, where it came from, and what still needs to be confirmed for the buyer's actual transaction.
Primary sources first
For builder policies, we prioritize builder-controlled legal pages, terms, broker-program pages, agent resources, government or regulator materials, and other first-party documentation before secondary summaries.
Change-sensitive information is dated
Builder registration, compensation, incentives, inspection access, and market conditions can change. When we publish change-sensitive research, we identify when it was checked and avoid presenting an old policy as permanently current.
No universal claims where rules vary
We do not turn one builder, community, state, or transaction rule into a national rule. Language is framed around what a source actually supports and where buyers still need transaction-specific confirmation.
Professional review
Core buyer guidance is reviewed by licensed real estate professionals with direct new-construction experience. Legal interpretation, engineering, inspection, tax, lending, and insurance questions are directed to the appropriate licensed professional.
Commercial independence
New Home Hero may receive referral compensation from participating brokerages where permitted by law. Builders do not pay to control our editorial conclusions, and network agents do not purchase higher editorial rankings on New Home Hero.
Corrections over defensiveness
If a builder policy, source, factual statement, or market detail is outdated or wrong, the goal is to correct the page promptly and update the review date when the underlying content materially changes.
Source hierarchy
What we trust first.
- 01Builder legal terms, published broker policies, official agent portals, and first-party program pages
- 02State real estate commissions, statutes, government agencies, and official public records
- 03Direct transaction documentation and firsthand professional experience, presented with appropriate scope
- 04Qualified industry sources such as inspectors, attorneys, lenders, engineers, and trade organizations
- 05Secondary reporting only when it adds context and can be independently checked
What our content is
- Buyer-first education about the new-construction process
- Research into publicly available builder policies
- Practical questions buyers can use with builders and their own professionals
- A framework for choosing experienced new-construction representation
What it is not
General content on this site is not legal, tax, inspection, engineering, lending, insurance, or individualized brokerage advice. Agency relationships are established through written agreements with the buyer's selected brokerage. Builder and community terms should be confirmed for the actual transaction.
